Privacy Policy
General Introduction:
We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and want you to feel secure when visiting our website. Our data protection practices comply in particular with the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG-neu) and the German Telemedia Act (TMG). We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the nature, scope and purpose of the processing of your personal data. Please note in advance that this privacy policy applies solely to our websites and does not apply to third-party websites to which we provide links.
Subject of protection:
The subject of protection is personal data. This refers to all information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (hereinafter referred to as the ‘data subject’). This includes, in particular, information that allows conclusions to be drawn about your identity (e.g. details such as name, postal address, email address and telephone number).
Technical requirements:
In order for you to connect to our website, your browser transmits certain data to our website’s web server. This is a technical necessity to ensure that the information you have requested can be provided by the website. To enable this, your IP address, the date and time of your request, and the type of operating system you are using, amongst other things, are stored and used for a maximum of 30 days. We reserve the right to store this data for a limited period to safeguard our legitimate interests, so that in the event of unauthorised access or an attempt to cause us deliberate harm via this channel, we may trace it back to personal data (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO). We will only retain or pass on the data for these purposes and no other, without first informing you and asking for your permission.
Cookies:
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or mobile device via your browser, for example to recognise whether you visit websites repeatedly from the same device or browser. We generally use cookies to analyse interest in our website and to improve its user-friendliness. However, you can still access our website without cookies.
Cookies can usually be disabled or removed using tools available in most commercial browsers. The settings must be configured separately and individually for each browser you use. Different browsers offer different functions and options for this purpose.

The information provided in our cookie banner informs you about the use of these cookies when you visit our website; by continuing to use the site, or by clicking the ‘Agree’ button, you accept this.
Types of cookies:
To explain the most common types of cookies in more detail, we have outlined them below:
Session cookies:
Session cookies enable users and the changes they make to be recognised within a website. They allow the website to track your movements across individual pages, so that information that has already been entered or saved does not need to be entered or saved again. An example of this is shopping baskets in online shops. The session cookie stores the selected products in the shopping basket so that it contains the correct items when you proceed to checkout. Session cookies are deleted when you log out or expire automatically once the session has ended.
Persistent or session cookies:
A persistent or session cookie stores the user’s information and settings on the user’s computer for the period specified in the expiry date. This results in faster and more convenient access, as you do not have to, for example, reconfigure language settings or re-enter login details. The cookie is automatically deleted at the end of the storage period.
Third-party cookies:
Third-party cookies generally do not affect the use of the website, as they do not originate from the website operator. Their purpose is, for example, to collect information for advertising, personalised content and web statistics, and to pass this on to the relevant third-party provider
Tracking cookies:
Tracking cookies are special text files that enable data to be collected on the internet user’s behaviour. The aim is to gather information about the user’s areas of interest, for example to be able to launch tailored advertising offers. Tracking cookies are therefore not only set upon registration, but automatically when visiting the website.
The above overview of the most common types of cookies is intended to provide you with a general understanding of this method of data collection. This information is not intended to be exhaustive. Due to ongoing IT developments, it is likely that further types of cookies will emerge over time. Please check our privacy policy at regular intervals before using our website to keep up to date with any changes.
Users of our contact form:
Our website features contact forms that can be used to get in touch with us electronically. To ensure the secure transmission of your data, we guarantee an encrypted connection during the transmission process. By clicking the “Send” button, you consent to the transmission of the data entered in the form to us. We store your name and email address, and any further information you provide, so that we can get in touch with you and respond to your enquiry as effectively as possible. This enables us to provide you with the service you expect from us, whilst also allowing us to continuously improve our services. (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO).
Login portal:
We use a login portal to create a secure area that is accessible only to registered users. You will receive your login details following a successful registration on our website. As long as you remain registered, you can access the content and services that we offer exclusively to registered users. Registered users also have the option to change or delete the data provided during registration at any time, if required. During the login process, your login and the resulting transmission of your personal data are secured by encryption. The same applies whilst you are visiting the secure area.
Google Maps:
Our website uses the Google Maps mapping service via an API (application programming interface). The provider of the mapping service is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. In order to use the functions of Google Maps, it is necessary to store your IP address. According to Google, this information is usually transferred to a server in the USA and stored there. As the website operator, we have no influence over this data transfer. The transfer of information only begins when you click the ‘Activate’ button on the map. By activating the map, you consent to the transfer of information. If you do not wish to consent to the transfer of information, do not click the ‘Activate’ button on the map. This allows you to continue using the site without any data being transferred. The use of Google Maps is in the interest of presenting our online services in an appealing manner and ensuring that the locations specified on our website are easy to find. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. F DSGVO. Further information on the handling of user data can be found in Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
Tracking tools:
Our website uses features provided by various web analytics services from third-party companies, such as Google Inc. We explain in more detail below exactly which services these are and what data is analysed.
Use of Google Analytics with anonymisation feature
We use Google Analytics on our website, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, hereinafter
‘Google’. Google Analytics uses cookies that enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookies regarding your use of our online service (e.g. when, where and how often you access our website, including your IP address) is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. To ensure that your IP address cannot be personally identified, it is truncated immediately after collection (e.g. by deleting the last 8 bits) and is thus anonymised. IP anonymisation also applies to all Member States of the European Union and other contracting states of the European Economic Area. Further information on IP anonymisation and Google’s use of data can be found at: support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052;
If you wish to decide for yourself which data Google collects regarding the websites you visit, you can download an opt-out add-on for your web browser. However, this add-on does not prevent data from being transmitted to us or to other web analytics services we use. Further information on how to use and install the add-on can be found at: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout;
If you are using a mobile device (e.g. a smartphone) to access our website, please click on this link to prevent the transmission of analytics data to Google Analytics. The link above can also be used as an alternative to the browser add-on described above, as it activates an ‘opt-out cookie’ that is only valid for this browser and this domain. If you delete the cookies in this browser, this cookie will also be lost and you will need to click the link again.
Use of Google Tag Manager
We use Google Tag Manager from Google. Google Tag Manager allows marketers to manage a wide variety of website tags via a single interface. The tool (Tag Manager, which implements the tags) is a cookie-free domain and does not collect any personal data. It merely triggers tags, which may in turn collect data. However, Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If deactivation has been carried out at domain or cookie level, this remains in effect for all tracking tags implemented using Google Tag Manager.
C't's Shariff solution:
We use the so-called “Shariff solution” on our website to share our content. This allows us to protect your privacy and prevent the unintended transmission of information about your browsing behaviour via social media plugins from, for example, Facebook, Google or Twitter. Social media plugins are usually integrated into websites via so-called ‘iframes’. This means that personal information, such as your IP address or locally stored cookies, is transmitted to the social media services as soon as the page loads. “Shariff” replaces the social media plugins with simple HTML links, and a script retrieves how often a page has already been shared or tweeted. Instead of your IP address, only our server address is transmitted to the social media services. Only when you actively click on a plugin will your personal data, as mentioned above, be transmitted with your consent.
Further information on the “Shariff solution” from c’t can be found at: www.heise.de/ct/ausgabe/2014-26-Social-Media-Buttons-datenschutzkonform-nutzen-2463330.html
Facebook Fan Page:
Since the European Court of Justice handed down its ruling on 5 June 2018, every fan page operator has been jointly responsible with Facebook Ireland Limited (hereinafter “Facebook Ireland”) for the processing of personal data on the fan page. To establish a suitable legal basis for tracking Insights data on our Facebook fan page, we obtain your consent via the cookie banner on this website.
We would also like to point out that all further information regarding the collection, processing and use of personal data on our fan page, as well as the responsibility for data processing and your rights and obligations, is described in our data policy. You can find this in the Info section of our Facebook fan page under the link ‘Data Policy’ or here.
Further information on joint responsibility pursuant to Art. 26 DSGVO regarding the processing of Insights data can be found in the Page Insights Addendum created by Facebook. Information on the processing of personal data by Facebook can be found in Facebook’s Privacy Policy.

We therefore reserve the right to amend this privacy policy to bring it into line with new data protection legislation and other changes in the factual or legal situation. Please therefore always familiarise yourself with the privacy policy in force at the time you start using our website.

Who receives your personal data? (Art. 13 Abs. 1 e, f DSGVO)
We treat your personal data as confidential and do not, as a rule, disclose it to third parties unless you have given your consent or the disclosure is required by law or under a contractual obligation. In isolated cases, we engage data processors to process your personal data. This is done in accordance with Art. 28 DSGVO and on the basis of a data processing agreement.
How long will the data be stored? (Art. 13 Abs. 2 a DSGVO)
The law has established a wide range of data retention obligations and time limits.
As a general rule, we only store your data for as long as is required by law.
Once these time limits have expired, the relevant data is routinely deleted if it is no longer required for the performance of the contract. We store data that we process on the basis of your consent until you withdraw your consent or for as long as the data is required. We store data that we process on the basis of a legitimate interest for as long as the legitimate interest persists.
Commercial or financial data relating to a completed financial year will be deleted after a further ten years in accordance with legal requirements, unless longer retention periods are prescribed or necessary for legitimate reasons. Where data is not subject to specific retention periods, it will be deleted once the purposes for which it is processed no longer apply.
For what purposes and on what legal basis do we process your personal data? (Art. 13 Abs. 1 c, d DSGVO)
We have already explained the purposes and legal basis of data processing. In addition, the following generally applies: Where necessary, we process your data to safeguard our legitimate interests or those of third parties in accordance with Art. 6 Abs. 1f DSGVO, for example to assert legal claims and defend ourselves in legal disputes, or to ensure IT operations and security.
Where we have a legitimate interest or have obtained your written consent to process your personal data, we process your data for the purposes of external communication and marketing on the basis of Art. 6 Abs. 1 a or f DSGVO. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
To comply with legal requirements, we may or must, where necessary, process your data and disclose it to third parties (in accordance with Art. 6 Abs.1c).
We do not use your data in any way for automated decision-making or profiling.
We also use cookies to provide you with a better service when you use our website and to make it easier for you to use the site (Art. 6 Abs. 1 f DSGVO).
What are your rights and obligations? (Art. 13 Abs. 2 b, c, d, e DSGVO) Every data subject has the following rights:
• Gem. Art. 15 DSGVO, you have the right of access. This means you may request confirmation from us as to whether we are processing personal data relating to you.
• Gem. Art. 16 DSGVO, you have the right to rectification. This means you may request that we rectify any inaccurate personal data relating to you.
• Gem. Art. 17 DSGVO, you have the right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’). This means you may request that we erase personal data concerning you without undue delay – unless we are unable to erase your data because, for example, we are required to comply with statutory retention obligations.
• Gem. Art. 18 DSGVO, you have the right to restriction of processing. This means that, apart from storing your personal data, we may no longer process it in any practical sense.
• Gem. Art. 20 DSGVO, you have the right to data portability. This means you have the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, and to transmit this data to another controller.
• Gem. Art. 7 Abs.3 DSGVO, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future.
• Gem. Art. 13 DSGVO, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
You also have the right to object, which we explain in more detail at the end of this privacy notice.
If you wish to exercise your rights, please contact the Data Protection Officer (see above for contact details).
